news: Baby Bear Cubs
 One recent blustery night, the winds howled across the North Georgia mountains and an old white pine tree, dead from age, groaned. Nestled nearby was a mother black bear and her two cubs, seemingly safe from the chill winds. An instant later, the old pine yielded to the breath of Mother Nature and fell upon the sleeping momma bear, killing her. Two terrified cubs spent the rest of the night and most of the next day crying out in fear, trying to rouse their dead mother. Later in the afternoon, nearby loggers heard the wails of the frightened cubs. Just six weeks old and barely bigger than a puppy, they could be easily picked up with bare hands. The loggers brought them to The Wildlife Sanctuary, which has rescued bears for over 30 years in Georgia. Now you have a chance to see these precious babies and the life-saving work at the sanctuary – but hurry. These cubs will move on to a permanent home, since the Georgia DNR prohibits their release back into the wild. |
