News - Cuts May Lead to Bears
Being Euthanized
ELLIJAY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A non-profit wildlife group in Ellijay said Monday that it may have to close its doors due to state and federal budget cuts.
The group's rehabilitation center treats thousands of orphaned animals from the wild and handlers said they fear some of the animals may have to be euthanized if they don't get the money to care for them.
According to the center's staff, the wildlife sanctuary is out of money. Two bear cubs named Ben and Jerry who are being cared for at the facility face being euthanized by the state if the center fails to get the proper funding.
The facility is the largest rehabilitation center is the southeast.
