1,000 Points of Light

The Wildlife Sanctuary in Ellijay, Georgia in the largest indigenous, large wild animal rescue, treatment and release facility in the Southeast. Each year, hundreds of animals pass through the hands of the dedicated staff members and volunteers at the sanctuary. These animals would have perished without this vital intervention.

The Wildlife Sanctuary currently houses dozens of large wild animals that cannot be released, including 7 Western cougars, 3 Eastern cougars, several black bears and a Canadian Lynx. It also nurses hundreds of baby squirrels, opossum, and deer each spring and releases them back to the wild. These activities require thousands of pounds of food, formula, feeding equipment, individual care habitats, exercise yards, and other facilities.

The Wildlife Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has to raise $250,000 each year to support its lifesaving work. These funds are used to purchase food, maintain care facilities, buy medical supplies, transport animals in emergencies, pay staff who clean grounds and habitats, train volunteers, and cover all the other expenses of operating this 40-acre facility.

Please join our 1,000 Points of Light Contributors with a gift of $250 or more to support the sanctuary. With 1,000 gifts of $250 or more, we can continue our successful work in 2009. Your 1,000 Points of Light recognition and appreciation certificate with your unique serial number will be mailed to the name and address shown on your donation.
